Happy birthday to you, Crisnelle!
I have no idea how old you are, how and with whom you are celebrating your special day, and only recently found out about the exact date of your natal day. But these particulars don’t matter as much as the fact that you exist and are a part of my life.
I am grateful you are alive. I am blessed to have a friend like you. Someone who asks about my day. Someone who cheers me on after a hard one. Someone who encourages me when I don’t trust myself. Someone who tells me anything and everything without hesitation or fear of judgment. Someone who sends me the funniest gifs and supports me with my shameless selfies. Someone who reads anything I write. Someone who’d sing me songs or show me videos that he thinks I will appreciate or resonate with. Someone I’ve met only once in person but feels like a childhood pal. Someone genuine. Someone true. Someone loving and kind and honest and worthy of trust.
On the eve of your birthday, I tried recovering our exchanges to measure the length and depth our friendship had grown. But my fingers gave out and I don’t have time for copying and pasting a thousand messages for hours. I won’t be able to retell any of your wise or funny words. I won’t be able to attach any nostalgic screenshot or photograph to this note. I won’t be able to put together “The Top 10 Things that Make Crisnelle Tan Awesome” like I fully intended to.
Forgive me, bud. All I have are these words that are now in front of you. But I mean every letter, every punctuation, every space, every single bit…
Thank you, Crisnelle. For being my confidante, my bravery partner, my encourager, my best guy friend, if I can claim so. For being who you are to me. For being here time and time again, a thousand miles apart or not.
I wish you all the best and stand with you in prayer. May this new year bring to fruition the life you want. May the girl of your dreams finally realize your heart and your worth. May the new job you chose over comfort bring you the freedom you desire, financially, professionally and more. May you have more airplane rides and mountain climbs and sea adventures. May you be blessed with health and happiness and peace of mind always. May you be ready to accept what is to unfold and be willing to let go of what you must. May you find your joy. May you be unafraid to let the world see you, for you.
Looking back, it’s interesting how we became friends. It was random and weird and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Please be reminded that you are important to me. And with all seriousness, let me state my intention to keep you—close to my heart, dearly loved. Simply because people stumble upon connections like this very rarely in a lifetime. Because I am and will always be incredibly grateful for a friendship like yours and mine.
Enjoy your day, Crisnelle Tan. You are awesome!!!
